The California Advantage

Variety Throughout the Seasons

With some 1,200 miles of coastline, California is blessed with a diversity of climates that allows almost every imaginable flower to thrive and grow. On any given day, you'll be able to choose from hundreds of specialty flowers, exotic botanicals, and high quality "bread and butter" standard varieties. California's mild weather conditions yield long growing seasons, with many crops available year-round. Literally thousands of varieties are grown here. It is no wonder that almost 70 percent of all domestically produced, commercial sold cut flowers are grown in California.

California is a leader in fashion trends, and so too, our growers keep their fingers on the pulse of design and consumer trends. Staying abreast of color, design and cultural influences is a critical ingredient to success in the competitive floral market. Growers continually introduce new varieties, all carefully selected to meet high performance standards and pique consumer interest.

Quality Throughout the Seasons

California growers remain competitive in the world market while adhering to our state's rigorous labor and environmental standards. This challenge puts us at the forefront of innovation, with hydroponically grown crops, computerized monitoring of greenhouse conditions, and the most up-to-date techniques for the care and handling of flowers.

It is said that commercial flower growing began here in the 1870s when a Ventura housewife began selling callas from her southern California home. Today the industry includes 300 growers, many of whom are third and fourth generation floriculturists. These family-run businesses are steeped in tradition and integrity. Some are small; others have thousands of square feet of greenhouses and hundreds of acres of field crops. They all take pride in continuing California's high standard of quality and, of course, contributing to our domestic economy.

The CCFC

Service Throughout the Seasons

With close ties to transportation specialists within the floral chain of distribution, growers are assured their quality crops make it to market fresh. Refrigerated trucking companies, with expertise in moving cut flowers, pick up pre-cooled product from growers everyday. Nearly 90 percent of California flowers are delivered cross-country enveloped in this constant cold chain. This nurturing of temperatures, along with dedicated post-harvest treatments, is what increases the quality and life span of flowers. We mean it when we say, "Our flowers are fresh!"

The latest innovation in transporting flowers is the wet pack system. This allows flowers to go directly from our growers' post-harvest treatment into a shipping bucket that holds water. The wet pack method makes delivery of "softer" blossoms a breeze, plus less handling is required by everyone along the way.
